Designer Statement.
Presently I consider myself an independent surface designer.  My design sensibility is conveyed through the language of color, thus becoming a reinterpretation of classical decorative motifs for modern usage.  I have been a studio artist, instructor, production stylist and boutique owner.  Basically I draw, paint, print, present, read, write and check my e-mail.  I  design luxury, avant garde textile products for architects and when appropriate, license my concepts to manufacturers of homefurnishings products for the consumer market.  “I do not wish to follow trends but to become an innovative voice in American Design.”
Paula Zanger

ZANGER studio is an innovative design business that specializes in luxury textiles and licensed home products.  Zanger studio believes there will be a need for more  “human” created products to balance our everchanging computerized society.  TACTILE. The studio aims to create contemporary “American Crafts”, synonymous with good design.  Our goal is moderate sustained growth, annual profitability, and incorporating socially responsible ways of structuring a business, while still maintaining our sense of aesthetics and humor.

Design Philosophy of Zanger studio:  The challenge is to truly design a concept of beautiful work which is original.   Regardless of a market tier, we apply the time and energy into the design process.  Intelligent beautiful design will sell itself because of  unique and excellent qualities.  Once the products are viewed the interest will be self generated by the tactile originality of the designed patterns.

After studying painting and fine arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she designed textiles for the fashion industry, then opened SOFA SOMA, a mid-80's fabric boutique in the East Village. SOFA SOMA created original luxury fabrics for architects and interior designers, and sold hand-printed pillows to Barneys, Fellisimo, ABC Carpet and Home. Fabric she designed exclusively for Furniture of the 20th Century is now in the Decorative Arts Permanent Collection of the Brooklyn Museum.

Presently, her design studio is high above the bustle of the Union Square Farmer's Market with an "I Love New York" sky light view of the Empire State Building. She lives on Avenue A in the East Village, whichkeeps her current in the design subculture and supports her self-described
"bad travel habit."  Images from trips to Prague, Venice, and Vienna often find their way into her work.

Zanger's combination of classical training and modern sensibility are evident in her designs. Paula Zanger's home furnishings reflect an understanding of the history of design combined with a sense of how people live today. "I want to incorporate my sense of beauty into everyday life."
