*What
is Licensing? Licensing is essentially a collaboration between a designer
and a manufacturer. A license is an agreement through which an artist
or designer who owns the reproduction rights to the art works permits
another third party, usually a client, to use the designed art for a
limited period of time, and throughout a specific geographic area, in
return for a fee or royalty. For example, a design may be licensed to
one party for wall coverings and to another paper goods, dinnerware
or barware. At the expiration of the license, the right to use the design
reverts back to designer or owner.
Why
License? Zanger studio chooses to collaborate with manufacturers by
licensing designed collections. The printmaking process of creating
surface combined with Paula Zanger's years of on site commercial production
make for strong business relationships with manufacturers. The rewards
for the manufacturers are authentic concepts created in an art studio
environment, rather than a corporate office atmosphere. Zanger studio
gains a broader distribution of design ideas and greater financial rewards
for both parties involved.

Launched at
the October 2000 Table Top Market, "Turning Leaves, Vegetables
and Fruits in a Row," are all reconfigurations of Paula Zanger's
Wild Apple Graphics "silhouette studies." Zanger uses
a combination of decal for the super realistic motifs and wax
resist for the textural vine background. This combination of techniques
gives a new dimension to the surface of the plate, making it a
"must touch" product. The simplicity and boldness of
the images makes for a modern sensibility "Gourmet Kitchen
Clean."
